Nov. 19, 1942: The German Wehrmacht stands at the pinnacle of its last blitzkrieg. Embattled German troops hold most of the city of Stalingrad, but the flanks are covered with less dependable Axis allies. Opposing these flanks are the shock troops of the Soviet Red Army. They are poised to encircle Stalingrad and turn the tide of the war.
Stalingrad Pocket covers the Soviet 1942 Winter Counteroffensive and the German operations to relieve the encircled 6th Army. The Soviet player must use a ponderous but fragile army of great size to win victory. The German player must counter with saber-like use of mobile reserves in hit-and-run strikes.
The original Stalingrad Pocket won the 1992 Charles S. Roberts Award for best World War II Game. This completely redesigned second edition features a new map, revised order of battle, and rules for reserves and determined attacks. What hasn't changed: the fact that this game is still an exciting, fast-paced nail-biting affair!
